Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School

Philosophy
We believe Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School offers students a Catholic education in the teachings of Jesus Christ. As a community bound together by Christian ideals, each child is valued as an individual person.

We believe, as members of this Christian community, in subscribing to the ideal that parents and faculty share the responsibility for the total growth of out students. Our constant endeavor is to establish an environment that provides students the freedom and opportunity to discover, develop and evaluate their academic abilities, skills, talents, and social relationships.

Mission
Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School has been dedicated to excellence in the Catholic tradition since 1954. Its mission is to:

  • build a community where Catholic/Christian values are learned and lived;
  • provide a caring environment which fosters academic excellence;
  • respect and nurture the individuality and dignity of each child;
  • create a working partnership between OLQM staff and family.

Curriculum
Religious Education, English, Reading, Phonics, Spelling, Handwriting, Mathematics, Algebra, Science, Social Studies, History, Spanish (Gr. 3-5), French (Gr. 6-8), Computer, Library, Music, Art, Physical Education.

Extracurricular Activities
Christmas Music Program, President's Physical Fitness Program, Scouting, Christian Outreach, National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, Math Club, Drama Club, Chess Club, Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Essay and Speech Contests, Early Childhood Program (Infants & Toddlers), Sunday School and Nursery.

Athletics
CYO Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, and Cheerleading. Intramural Soccer, Pillo Polo and Basketball.

General Information
Founded in 1954 by Father Lucian Hebert and the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Auxiliary services from the Birmingham School District include: Remedial Reading, Speech Therapy, Social Worker, Psychologist.
